1:1s

A 1:1 is your manager's record of a one-on-one: what you talked about and what each of you agreed to do. It has two parts — a shared part the employee can read once the manager shares it, and private notes the employee never sees.

For employees

My 1:1s — the button on My Track Record — lists every 1:1 your manager has shared with you. You get a bell and an email when one is shared.

The shared part is the agenda, summary, wins, concerns and action items. Tick off your own action items as you finish them; your manager sees it.

A 1:1 does not go into your review by itself. If something doesn't match how you remember the conversation, tell your manager — it's their record of it, and they can change it.

Running a 1:1 — managers and HR

Open 1:1s from a person's Team Notes page (between Set a goal and New note), from their row in Managers Corner, or from the person dialog — click their row on the People page, or their card on a department's People tab — then New 1:1.

A new 1:1 is a draft only you and HR can see. Share shows the employee the shared part and notifies them; Stop sharing takes it back. Your private notes stay with you and HR whether or not the 1:1 is shared.

From a meeting transcript

Upload the transcript from Zoom, Teams or Google Meet — .vtt, .srt, .txt or .docx, up to 5 MB — or paste it. Strive:

  • fills only the sections that are still empty, so it never overwrites what you wrote;
  • adds the action items that were agreed;
  • proposes evidence notes, each quoting the conversation. A proposal whose quote isn't actually in the transcript is dropped, and nothing is rated or judged.

The transcript itself is not kept — it is read once to draft the 1:1 and thrown away.

From Zoom

If your organisation has Zoom connected, you can skip the download and upload. Connect your own Zoom account once, then import a meeting straight into a 1:1.

  1. On a 1:1, open the From Zoom tab and click Connect Zoom (or go to Profile → Connected apps). Approve Strive on Zoom's screen and you land back on the same 1:1.
  2. The tab lists your Zoom cloud recordings from the last 30 days that have a transcript, the one closest to the 1:1's date first.
  3. Click Import. The 1:1 is drafted exactly as it would be from an upload, and shows Drafted from Zoom · date · meeting name. Importing the same meeting again doesn't duplicate action items.

Strive can only read your own Zoom profile and your own cloud recordings — it can't change anything in Zoom. The only Zoom data it keeps is your login, encrypted; the transcript is thrown away as with an upload.

If Zoom stops accepting Strive's access — after a password change, or if you remove the app in Zoom — the tab says Reconnect Zoom. To disconnect, go to Profile → Connected apps → Disconnect; that revokes Strive's access at Zoom and deletes the stored login.

From a 1:1 to a review

Nothing from a 1:1 counts toward a review until you pick it. Click Add to my notes on a proposed piece of evidence, or on any line under Wins or Concerns. Each becomes a Team Note linked back to the 1:1, and from there works like any other note: you add it to the review when you write it.

Turning 1:1s off — HR

1:1s are on by default. To switch them off for the whole organisation, go to Settings → System functions → 1:1s. With 1:1s off:

  • the 1:1 pages (a person's 1:1s, a 1:1, My 1:1s) aren't found, as if they weren't there;
  • the 1:1s buttons leave Managers Corner, Team Notes and My Track Record, and the 1:1s row leaves the person dialog;
  • search (⌘K) and the in-app guide stop mentioning them;
  • the "shared a 1:1" notification isn't offered;
  • Profile → Connected apps is hidden, since Zoom is only used to import 1:1s.

Transcript import — HR

Transcript import — upload, paste and Zoom — sits under the 1:1s switch and can be switched off on its own, also under Settings → System functions. While 1:1s are off it greys out and keeps its setting for when they come back. It also needs an AI key under Settings → AI & MCP.
